We all know how wonderful traveling is especially if it’s to a place or location we’ve never been to before. Unfortunately, however, sometimes traveling comes with all manner of distresses and it isn’t unusual for one to feel a bit weighed down by stress, anxiety, and discomfort throughout the whole process. With the emergence of CBD and its accompanying products, travelers can now breathe a sigh of pleasant relief knowing that they can carry a substance like CBD on them to most places for relief from pains, aches and stress, especially those that accompany the traveling process. It isn’t therefore very surprising to find that people want to carry CBD products along with them on their trips and vacations. While that is somewhat commendable, carrying CBD and CBD-infused products in airplanes isn’t exactly a good idea.

Given that buying and selling of hemp-produced CBD is legal, it is somewhat baffling as to why CBD cannot be carried into the plane. However, this is so according to the guidelines of the Transport Security Administration. A statement from the TSA found on their website says “Possession of marijuana and cannabis-infused products, such as Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is illegal under federal law.”

Now it is important to note from this statement that the TSA doesn’t make any attempt to differentiate hemp-produced CBD from marijuana-produced CBD. In fact, as far as the TSA is concerned, both are the same and illegal under federal law and even if your CBD-infused product is legal where you stay, being in possession of it anywhere around a plane or airline could land you in trouble. It is important to note however that TSA doesn’t necessarily search for illegal substances on a potential passenger or so they say. On their website, they say,” TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or illegal drugs.” They nonetheless do make a provision that should they discover substance they consider illegal on you, they’ll see to it that you are duly dealt with by the appropriate authorities.

Most times, if cannabis is legal in your state, and you possess a CBD product (meaning you aren’t breaking state law), the police won’t hold any charge against you but allow you to go through security checks only after the product has been disposed off. However, even if you are able to go beyond these checks with your possession of CBD product intact, you may not be able to get past custom checkpoints (on international flights)

You may not be able to carry CBD on board a plane but that doesn’t mean you cannot benefit from it before your flight also. Prior to your flight, you could take a capsule, gummy or any other CBD edible. If you aren’t going to be delayed by 2 hours and beyond boarding the plane, then you can be sure that the calming and soothing effect that so often accompanies taking CBD will kick in and be experienced by you at just the right time on the plane, propelling you to make the most out of that all-important mid-flight nap. You may also want to mail your CBD product ahead of you to your destination before you get there.

At the moment, it can seem very frustrating that you cannot carry CBD unto the plane. However, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes the norm. More and more people are beginning to embrace the hemp plant and CBD and we can only be patient and hope that time will play in our favour. For now, just stay cautious and don’t put yourself at unnecessary risks by attempting to carry CBD unto the plane.
